It’s amazing how many legit criminals get into public office or important civil service positions, like county coroner, and how their motivations are always so transparent. We need more ways to prevent these types of predators from attaining office.

With the exception of New Orleans, coroners are elected in Louisiana for some dumb reason.

Then sign up and oppose him.
For coroner? You know that’s not a job that anyone can or wants to do, right?
It’s not like running for Congress where any other competence requirements are optional if you’re good enough at lying about corruption.
Then find someone and back them. Go to the local opposition and ask what you can do to get your guy running.
This always sounded crazy to me. In Canada, a coroner is a medical doctor with a specialization, similar to a pathologist. In some States it’s just a random person.
There is a great Last Week Tonight with John Oliver about how the US coroner system is fucked up.
In fact, four days before his term kicked off, Tape announced that – after he took over – the coroner’s office would no longer provide its sexual assault nurse examiner (Sane) program. He said local hospitals instead would be responsible for the service, which involved collecting evidence that was vital for the prosecution of sexual assault crimes, as Nola.com reported.
I can’t imagine why an accused sexual predator would do such a thing?
Also, he perceived a death threat when he found a body bag at a coroner’s office? Not the brightest or not truthful. Flip a coin. I bet it lands standing up on its edge.
I feel like it’s a good thing to not have an admitted child molester in charge of overseeing a program serving victims of sexual assault. Losing the program in the first place is shitty, though.
And of course the creep who wants to cut down on the evidence-gathering is named “Tape.”
