Hey guys. After discussing with our lovely sysadmin @tedvdb@feddit.nl earlier, I thought it’s time we gathered to discuss our little community here. feddit.nl has been through some tough times, but it’s still up and strong! Let’s look into helping it solidify even more.

How have you been liking Lemmy so far? Would you like it if feddit.nl offered different interfaces like Photon and Voyager? Isn’t the trending communities bot really cool? ;)

Please feel free to let us know what we can do to help this instance thrive, and maybe tell us a little about your day, heh heh heh.

And of course, creating content, as well as sharing with others you know, goes a long way!

I think from a technological point of view, feddit.nl is fine the way it is right now for me. I do think that there could be more content and it would be nice if more people joined.

I know I probably could post more myself. I have always been a lurker on Reddit and I almost never posted and only rarely commented. I try to do that more now to help grow the community, but it does not come naturally to me. I always feel very awkward when I said something. 😅

I am not sure whether there is a technological solution to grow the community. I think the issue is more social. People might not know about it and I suspect this is a typical case of the bootstrapping problem in ICT (i.e., the technology becomes only attractive to people when a certain number of other users use it as well). In that case, it would help if we inform others about the existence of feddit.nl and we should encourage people to post and comment.

Maybe it would be nice to get a list of ideas on things we can do that people might find more engaging. Maybe some of us would like to have daily discussion threads about an interesting peoposition, or maybe some people would like more memes or something like a weekly thread asking people how they are doing. I think in general, at this stage, it might be nice to have some daily or weekly stuff like this so that people know that there is something to interact with regularly. It might also make people feel more connected or part of the community in this way. It might be best to ask the community about that, because my preferences might de different from others.

Well, for being very awkward to say something, you do give a very thorough and insightful answer, which I can relate to very much by the way! I too was primarily a lurker on Reddit with the occasional upvote or comment here and there and the very occasional post.

But you’re right, if we want Lemmy to become an active and successful successor to Reddit, engagement is key.

So, to all my fellow Lemmies, upvote, comment and post!! (But do try to post quality stuff. Enough shitposts already.)

        Thanks. That is encouraging. :-)

I agree with the quality comment. That is still important!
