Considering that they both support activitypub and I seem to be able to subscribe and post to Lemmy communities from Mastodon, I assume the Lemmy instances should be able to subscribe to kbin updates. How can I do that?

What does eventually mean here? I tried searching for buyitforlife@kbin.social and it does not show up. How does my instance learn about this community?

What link or info do you have for the community/magazine you want to subscribe to? If you are on Lemmy, you want to go to the communities direct webpage, copy that URL and then paste that into your instance’s search. It might not show up right away, just click the next button, the last button, and again until your server can find it. As long as your instance, or the instance the community is hosted on have not defedraded from one another it will show up in a minute or two.

I’ve had communities on other servers take 24 hours to show up. Unfortunately, I can’t give you a definite timeline.

I’ve been told you also need to include the exclamation mark before the community name in your search.

I believe this is something they’re working on.
