I’m seeing a lot of celebratory posts around in various communities regarding the explosive “growth” over the last couple days. Meanwhile, I’m seeing posts about the registration exploit, and how even just to test it out, the guy reporting it created tens of thousands of accounts on an instance in a matter of minutes. Instances are popping up with 10,000 “new users” and only 5 posts (I made those numbers up but they are representative of what’s popping up all over the place). How many accounts got created in the last hour is seemingly no longer meaningful in terms of engagement.

Number of active users in the last month, along with number of posts and comments, is probably a better metric.

Your made up numbers are low. Check out all the instances with >15,000 users and single digit post counts. This is only the first page sorted by users.
