Didn’t expect the mastodon CVE report/account would kinda end up being about platform diversity on the fediverse (TLDR: only mastodon really had the problem, which was huge)

The point though is that not all platforms had the problem, which means platform diversity would have lessened the significance.

Oh yea, mastodon’s dominance is getting a little embarrassing for the fediverse IMO. Threads joining will make it even worse.
As an example, gargron is generally embracing of Threads’ arrival (he’s said some cringey things IMO) … which means the fediverse, by a decent approximation is embracing Threads. Huge decision in one person’s hand.
Sure instances are independent, but mastodon.social is also dominant, and gargron’s “leadership” effect is likely real.
