Typically it’s lotion and my wife is allergic to Bath & Body Works lotions and has had full blown asthma attacks from a cup being handed into our car.

Several years ago I used to work with a could3 of cops, and I’d always ask them: is there anything I can do during a traffic stop to get out of a ticket. They’d share laugh it off and say “no, if you deserve a ticket then you’ll get one”. But then once night on a business trip I was out drinking with one of the guys and asked again and he actually told me what I should do that will give a ‘signal’ that I’m ‘one of the good ones’. I have only gotten warnings since then.

The advice was: get out your wallet, turn on the inside light, roll down your window, while holding your wallet, place both hands (crossed) at the top of your steering wheel.

I used it for peer-to-peer payments. Guess I’ll join Venmo like everyone else now.

I’m a very late Gen X, my wife is very early Millennial, most of our friend groups are a similar mix… And we’re in the same boat as you. I paid off my student loans last year, my mortgage is bearable, I got laid off a little over a year ago but had the savings to bridge the gap until I found a new job (and landed in a better paying position), and just got back from taking my family to Disney World for a week. But I spent most of my 20s and into my 30s eating ramen, saving up to go to maybe 2 concerts a year, asking my parents for gas money, and truly living paycheck to paycheck. Gradually it got better, but I was lucky to not get sick, injured, or addicted and I do acknowledge just how much of my current situation is due to luck, but I also had to put in plenty of hard work.

That’s the story of Fossil: great looking watches, that are subpar quality. I’ve owned 4 Fossil watches over the past 30+ years and I’ve regretted each one. The last was the Carlisle smartwatch, and that will be my last a Fossil.

I agree, even when the line is wrapped around the building the wait rarely is ever that long.

And I know this is just pissing into the wind in this community, but CFA is amazing in my community. Yes, Popeyes sandwich is better, but the service level is next level at CFA. They pay well, treat their employees great (see photo), and they give back to the community. When the local owners were renovating their stores they went out seeking volunteer opportunities for their employees, them paid their employees for the time they spent volunteering. Plus the employees are just nice… compare that to the Popeyes employees who obviously hate being at work, are understaffed, and underpaid.

Yes, CFA has issues at the corporate level but on the local level it is an amazing employer and member of the community.

“If they meet specs” is the important thing, and unfortunately that’s hard to know, though that $0.99 cable at the gas station isn’t going to cut it.

This is nice and all, but couldn’t they instead make an arbitrary UI change to the camera app again? I’m almost to the point where I’m using that app with muscle memory again.

Same, I had the Carlisle and it was a worthless piece of trash. It was painfully slow, and it would vibrate with a notification, but then there wouldn’t be any notification to be found. I eventually just stopped wearing it and figured I’d wait for the Pixel Watch to be released, but even then, knowing how horrible Google’s first attempts at hardware usually goes, I still waited an extra year for the Pixel Watch 2. So far I’ve been happy with it, and I’ll never buy another Fossil watch again.

I’ve had 4 Fossil watches over the past 30 years and they’ve all turned out to be garbage. Beautiful garbage.
