First, you’re part of many networks you don’t know. If they use your device to track you, they need concent, but if they use someone else’s device, they do not.
Every phone you pass within 100’ can see your broadcast, log a time and position and list of devices. Real time tracking and mapping exists today. Grocery stores use this to track and market content to you before you even check out.
You can opt out, but that may only stop you from seeing results; the devices are still tracked and logged.
But I am confused by the encryption. Gathering nearby devices and GPS location doesn’t use an owners encryption key. That would have to be encrypted after collection/processing using the owners account settings. At that stage, does it matter much?
Yeah they blocked it a few months ago. I don’t remember the specifics, but it seemed like a new mod/admin came into play and didn’t get the memo about Lemmy and trying to be more transparent and engaged with communities. Just poof
