  • Idk, the community on Reddit/online is pretty friendly and active. In PVP and co-op it’s typically pretty great the first week after launch and about 2-3 years after launch.

You can’t really get around the fact that self imposed challenge is a huge part of how the core fans enjoy the game and I think it’s difficult for newcomers to know when hardcore fans are speaking to them vs their own compatriots.

Sekiro fans are hugely supportive of newcomers though, probably because it’s a relatively less played game. The community around Elden Ring suffered from its own success I think.

For me the advantage of an AirBnB is the ability to stay in a remote cabin in the middle of the mountains with a bonfire and a fenced yard for my dog.

I’m not sure why anyone stays in an AirBnB in the middle of a city (although I’ve found them to be cheaper and with better walkability in parts of Europe)

  • Returnal, Resident Evil REmakes, most Giant Bomb games, Firewatch, Hellblade…

If you liked Alan Wake, definitely give the RE remakes and Hellblade a shot, and don’t sleep on Firewatch. In fact, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is probably one of the most thoughtful and atmospheric experiences in gaming (at least in the field of 3rd person, pseudo action games).

  • I know this is c/Privacy, but I use an iCloud Secure Video camera for the doorbell. Logitech Circle Doorbell, no sign in or video sent to Logitech, just processed by my Apple TV on network and uploaded securely to iCloud, where it’s stored E2EE.

I’m technically proficient enough that I should be doing something better, but when non-tech friends ask what home camera system is private, it’s really the only one I can recommend as “good enough.”

  • I’m a huge sci-fi nerd, and I love the idea of exploring the solar system and galaxy. However, everyone I meet who actually talks about it is also so credulous about terraforming and mining and colonizing. It’s an outrageously stupid waste of resources and mental energy and I have such little respect for these people.

iOS is the most secure platform for 99.99% of people. Custom ROMs on Android got harder and harder to deal with. De-Googlifying made life so difficult. I finally gave up and jumped to iOS and knowing that I’ll have day one updates for 5+ years on any phone is such a relief.

Everything is backed up, E2EE, and just easy. I used to think about smartphones all the time… Now I hardly ever do.

  • Jesus, I would love to see the world as simply as you do. You are literally going to avoid engaging with or thinking about every single point and reduce it to “Russia bad, NATO good?” You really see zero nuance in the history of NATO, its conception, its expansion, and the power it has? Does it not give you even a little pause? If not NATO, what about the world leaders who wield it?

I’m not trying to sound “intellectual,” and if I do it is because I am trying to be very specific and clear in what I say. I understand how closely this aligns with tankie talking points. That said, there is some level of intelligence or curiosity necessary for these conversations. If you reduce conflict around the world to some Marvel-esque “bad guy invades because he’s evil” scenario and never stop to ask why the bad guy exists, you are never going to be able to understand human conflict or contribute to the avoidance of it.
