Not OP, but just to serve as another data point: mostly just exhaustion. I am a full-time software developer, so I just really don’t want to deal with configurations and set up complex systems at home. That’s why I haven’t gotten into any smart-home stuff, either - I just don’t have the bandwidth to deal with the issues that come along with the space.
The issue with either is from the risk of popping/leaking: if your pillow leaks, your entire mattress might be fucked. The risk vastly outweighs the improvement

Constant urges to nap and trouble getting up afterwards are both common (but in no way definitive) symptoms of depression. Definitely above Lemmy’s pay grade - you need to talk to a doctor/therapist. Absolutely do not take antidepressants without consulting them.
Do you live in a large city? It’s an extremely common opinion in cities, where the symptoms are the most obvious. Suburbia has different problems with cars - completely unwalkable areas, and a complete reliance on vehicles despite not having an even remotely usable public transit system.
Being suspicious of people in hoodies isn’t racist 🙄 if you only got nervous around black people in hoodies, then sure, but there’s nothing wrong with being cautious of people who are concealing their identity. They might not be wearing it for that reason, but that’s still something it does.

Yes, a lot of addicts - most, probably - just shift their addiction to something else (hopefully something healthier), but that’s in no way universal.
Add onto that… the waters get real muddy when you start defining addiction. Is it still addiction if it’s good for you? Like, if I can’t get through a week without some celery, would people even call me an addict? If I can’t start my day without a run, would anyone ever think to say I have a problem?
I don’t think there ihas been any official statements, but at least two of his properties were raided by DHS, and when they conduct raids it is most often for human trafficking cases. While the raids were ongoing, PD was flying to (I believe) NYC, but diverted to a Caribbean island.
I would think that in general it comes down to understanding what “ownership” is and that it has been taken from us, replaced with “licensing”

But you should already be filthy rich at that point, so who cares 🤷♂️ the choice is largely irrelevant after a few years and, regardless of which option you choose, you should be well into the millions after a decade.
Steps let me build up actual wealth over the course of just a year or two. Breathing keeps me comfy my whole life, but I can’t be really wasteful for a few years.
The steps option has a way higher ceiling and can give you significantly more money when you need it most (i.e. early in this scenario). The breathing one will probably net you more money in the end, but that would likely be when you already have a huge excess and it doesn’t matter much.
I feel like every single family home has HOA dues, these days, so that comparison is kinda moot. Whether it’s condo fees, HOA dues, or the local cartel extorting you for protection, you’re gonna get nickel and dimed.
