Pineapple and chilli is one of my favourite taste combinations on this planet… I’ll even sometimes bang some (rice or cider) vinegar in there for a hot-sweet-sour flavour.
In my experience if you throw pineapple in a blender before adding it to the sauce almost everybody loves the flavour profile - even the pineapple haters. Go figure.

I once took a job where we essentially repossessed trap houses from the inhabitants - even if they had once been legal tenants. I soon started feeling much better when neighbours cheered us on and brought cups of tea. I later discovered my boss was notorious in the industry for going after scum rather than debtors. That job might have been the closest I’ve ever got to public service. But as for everything else you say, I couldn’t agree more. Debt collection against individuals is a disgusting, exploitative and inherently corrupt business.

At the end of the last century, somewhere between 97-99 probably. I became fully equipped with a Motorola 501 Startac and a Psion Series 5mx. My whole world changed. I’d used a mandarin clamshell iBook and a “rabbit” phone previously (maybe an NEC?) but the Motorola and Psion were the first I bought for myself.
Yeah, that’s the thing. When I heard they were gonna make a film of Naked Lunch my first thought was: “wtf? you can’t put that on camera.” I think they delivered a great compromise in the end.

My partner is still processing that film eight years later. She thinks she’ll be able to watch it again in another couple of years. I think I’ll keep her away from the book, whatever happens.

I went - kind of - wireless so I’ll never break another connector in my phone and I can change clothes (for work) all day long. My buds are physically connected to each other but not to my phone. Perfect set-up of compromises when I travel and work. (Sony WI-C310)
If we are all fucked, whatever, then why bother worrying? - you can’t change anything and it makes you feel worse. Enjoy what you’ve got left.
The key word here might be “nutjob”. Mental illness manifests itself in a myriad of ways… perhaps that’s all it was. A very sick man doing very sick things.

I discovered that a small strip of dead land at the side of my friends’ brand new house was available to buy for loose change from the original land owner (a once giant estate that had been broken up into parcels at auction) Fast forward three years or so later and the developer started stage two of the house building, another 850 houses. Guess whose tiny parcel of land was needed for utilities and access due to the terrain? We basically picked a number out of the air and the next day the cheque / check arrived. Paid off the mortgage, sold the house and paid about 90% the price of their dream home straight away and had a bit left over too. Can’t help but think that somebody somewhere lost their job/contract over that.
Psion 5mx palmtop computer running Epoc OS. Had the screen cable replaced a few years ago. Still use it for the word processor from time to time. Runs on two AA batteries.
