Man, I’m happy I’m not the only one who feels like this. I had such a good time in the chapotraphouse sub and never forgave reddit for banning it. None of the offspring from there could really capture what made this sub special, the hexbear thing certainly can’t.
IIRC, this “accident” is simply because chocolate producers figured out it’s cheaper to make the milk slightly taste like vomit (something the Americans apparently didn’t mind too much) than cooling it properly. I think nowadays that wouldn’t really fly but back then cheaper chocolate was maybe so desirable that consumers didn’t mind the weird taste.
I disagree, something like Sponsorblock is working quite well already for ads embedded in the video and unless YouTube makes serious sacrifices in UX I don’t see how they could prevent this.
I agree that this is a useful property of Lemmy once things get going but I think right now what we need if Lemmy is supposed to be a going concern is a less fractured landscape so people can actually find the content they are looking for. Some kind of global directory might be really useful there, just to make sure people interested in similar things can find each other.
Thank you for reading the source, the amount of FUD in this thread is crazy.
