  • They get called in for jury duty just like anyone else, but I doubt many actually get selected for the jury. The last time I had to do jury duty one of the people in the jury pool was a car dealer owner that did a bunch of local commercials and he was one of the first peeps to get canned.

Generally you want your jury to be impartial and bland. Everyone in the jury should be paying attention not the case, not their fellow jury members.

As an avid backpacker, I’m not stoked about the plan to reintroduce brown bears to my state.

I do a lot of hiking as well, and yes brown bears are definitely more of a pucker your b-hole scenario. But for the most part as long as you don’t sneak up on one accidentally or accidentally get between the bear and the cubs, they’re fairly harmless. Ya just gotta have something that makes some noise when you’re hiking, I have buddies that just strap a cow bell on their packs.

It would still be pretty rare for one to outright attack a full grown person, they are generally aware that peeps be dangerous.

It’s kinda why I never got the whole would you rather thing. As a fairly big dude, I’d much prefer the bear over a man or a woman. The bear is more than likely just going to scamper off. Even decent people in bad situations are very dangerous creatures, and more than likely, I’m just going to have to take care of a complete stranger in the woods.

  • Lightspeed seems to be a catch-all layterm that means the speed of light and everything faster. Hyperspace is a better description of what’s happening. And different ships traverse hyperspace at different speeds depending on their engine.

In Star Trek or sci-fi in general?

Light speed is the theoretical maximum speed limit at which an object with mass can move within normal space. Hyperspace was a sci-fi invention that was used as a theoretical work around for this problem. So any space that allows you to travel faster than the speed of light is technically hyperspace, whether that be extra dimensional travel, or going through a wormhole.

  • If the new ones are just heat moldable inserts aswell, you can probably find them online for cheaper.

I don’t tend to utilize heat moldable inserts very often, but they generally only cost around $15-20 a pair from most distributors. The mark up on anything foot care related is pretty insane if you’re going to a brick and mortar.

If the new ones are really custom, where they took an impression of your foot with a scanner, plaster tape, or casting box, then 200 for 3 pairs is a really good deal.

  • You probably won’t have very much luck with over the counter inserts, the vast majority are built to treat people with flat feet who over pronate. Conversely people with high arches tend to supinate, aka carry too much weight on the outside of the foot.

So most otc inserts will actually make foot pain from higher arches worse, especially if it’s hind foot pain. For my patients with higher arches who lack coverage for custom inserts, I will typically fit them with a pair of Arch Rival from a company called Don Joy, you can usually find them online or Amazon.

They are pretty decent out of the box at treating cavus arches. However, if someone is having significant ankle pain, I will typically modify it with a small amount of lateral heel wedging.

  • Was also cited Mao where he says that anyone who doesn’t fully understand all aspects of an issue has no right to ask questions–they literally believe that.

Yeah… Sounds about right. That sub likes to latch onto some pretty fundamental misunderstandings of Mao’s writings.

The real quote is “NO INVESTIGATION, NO RIGHT TO SPEAK”. Which basically boils down to - you should probably do some research before arguing with people.

Which on it’s face value is pretty generic, but decent advise. What it doesn’t mean is that you can’t question someone else’s viewpoint.

I think the most ironic part of this is in that same essay Mao writes about the importance of self criticism, and argues that we shouldn’t inherently trust appeals to authority.

"It is quite wrong to take a formalistic attitude and blindly carry out directives without discussing and examining them in the light of actual conditions simply because they come from a higher organ. "

That sub likes to pretend they spend time reading theory, when in reality its just an echo chamber that amplifies the vapid view point of a couple different active users. Users whom like to pretend that every bad decision the CCP ever made were errors forced upon them by the West. Even when it’s something like the cultural revolution, which even the CCP itself has admitted was misguided.
