A Canon printer. Not just a simple one, but a big (wide) one with real ink tanks, about 20 years ago.

Under Linux, I could only access basic printing services with that, and this only by using a default driver not made by Canon that happened to work. So I contacted Canon to get a proper user manual to create a proper device driver for this (something I could have done without problems), and basically got the answer that they would not support this, as “open source is theft of intellectual property”. They also had some very choice words about Linux in general.

I assumed I just got an asshole on the phone, so when I attended Cebit a short time later (back then the biggest trade fair in Europe for things like that), I went to the Canon booth, explained my issue, and basically got the same reply. So I sold the Canon printer and bought an HP one. At least HP supported Linux and supplied working drivers. Sadly, they have really gone down the drain since that, so the next printer will be a different brand again…

Well, I was not that far off. ‘Spamford’ Wallace founded “Cyber Promotions” on 1997. While there have been unsolicided emails even way before that, they had not been an issue: Whoever did them got a clue-by-four from the network community and that’s it. SPAM started to be a problem with ‘Spamford’ Wallace.

Who is watching YT videos through this app? I occasionally run into it when clicking on a link on my phone, but I close it before the ads are through. Because it has become nearly as much ads as content, and is completely unbearable. If the video seem important or interesting, I may forward the link to my PC, where I can watch the video without ads.

There are GSM modems that can be used by the server to send an SMS. I nearly bought one when it was cheap, but noticed just in time that the GSM level of that device was 3, which is no longer available here. And it needs a valid Sim card to work.

What now? Will Boeing have to pay SpaceX to get them back down?

Probably. Even including the RAM on chip and the rest of the mainboard, too. Take a modern flash chip, and you can emulate a vintage sized HDD with it.

What is their intended market? I see no real use for such a box. Heck, even Linux will probably come to a crawl on that box. And you can probably build something ARM based for the same price with eight gigabytes of RAM and running circles around the 386.

It is not the first time that Boeing did something space-related for the military or NASA. The big difference is that while on earlier contracts they just asked for more money time and again, this time they are on a fixed budget and have to show results before getting paid.

And they cannot claim it was not enough money to get people up and down safely. From the same pot, SpaceX got about half as much as Boeing got. Boeing cried foul about this “wasting” money on an unexperienced upstart! And now look where both companies are with their project: SpaceX is happily going up and down like an elevator, and Boeing, with twice the money and years of delay, launched people into space with a known-defekt spaceship.

After all those issues, I am not sure if I would want to travel back to earth in that Boeing contraption.

Part of the problem is that some seller cram loads of words into the article that have no real connection to the article as such.

Try purchasing wires or electronic components from Amazon. Same shit, only worse.

I only look into kbin.social occasionally to see if they finally got their spam problem under control. They were nice maybe a year ago, but now it is a dumpster fire with half the main page being ads for drugs and junk services.

It would help a lot if they did not hoard exploits, but made the software companies fix them.

Nice toy, but nothing my wife could actually use. Apart from that, it is way to wide and would cause loads of issues on most of the bike paths here.

Con: not suitable for elderly or hanicapped people.
