It was four wheel drive, so it may have been a manual transmission for off-roading, which would be fairly common in those parts. The fact that it was brand new suggests the possibility that they didn’t realize a manual can roll on a steep incline if the handbrake isn’t engaged (of course it could also have simply been left in neutral, regardless of the transmission type).

If it was solid stone (thickness of two brick skins) with additional insulating material behind the tacked on plasterboard then I’m surprised to hear that it didn’t stay reasonably comfortable in hot weather and would suspect other factors, such as metal roofing and/or inadequate ceiling insulation may be the reason for that.

You’re describing “brick veneer” construction - with one skin of bricks and an internal timber frame - which, as you’ve apparently experienced, is not very effective at keeping the space cool (although probably better than timber/stucco cladding). Solid masonry is usually two skins of brick with a cavity or equivalent thickness of concrete / stone block exterior walls.

Yes, temperature difference inside to out is amazing with solid masonry and ceiling insulation. No AC required.

had issues with Remmima and Win 10 last week - worked around it by using xfreerdp directly at the command line. this is what I use from a linux command line to set the resolution and sound (audio-mode:1 is same as Remmima local sound, or supposed to be)

xfreerdp /w:1680 /h:1050 /u:<username> /audio-mode:1 /v:<ip address> /sound /microphone

this keeps all audio local on the system, which is what I need.

Remmima was working fine until I messed with the settings to see if I could have both local and remote audio with RDP (you can’t) and then I could not get the local audio back no matter what I did - tried deleting profile, reinstalling, etc. Nothing worked until invoking xfreerdp directly. Been flawless since then.
