That’s true to some extent. I don’t agree with hard censorship like that, but there is also the risk of getting astroturfed and brigaded like reddit, which had a clear example as far back as 2013 where Eglin Air Force Base, FL showed up as “most addicted city”. The goal of censorship is to give your own opinions more space, so I’m not exactly upset if other instances are moderated in a different way when there are plenty of other instances moderated in a different way. The fediverse offers plenty of space.
Clearly the American point of view is neutral, the default, and the truth, so it doesn’t count as propaganda.
The onslaught of fediverse karen posts about lemmy.ml continues.
You mean like all the biden supporters on here defending his support for genocide?
Economics is a social science (and often a political tool) pretending to be a physical science. If they don’t want to be treated the way they are, they should drop the act.
That’s not the reason why they’re doing this, just like how eliminating the super size option wasn’t to have people eat less junk food. It’s not effective in achieving that. This is just to squeeze more profits out of people, on an item that costs them pennies.
That’s true, but there’s a wide range of things that can be tried before dipping into harmful territory. We should be cultivating an environment of critical thinking. If the reaction is to always immediately defer to experts then you get issues of people taking up healthcare resources for the tiniest issues. Additionally, if you can’t trust people to have a bit of sense when applying remedies, then what makes you think they’ll choose the correct “experts” to listen to?
One of the nice things about the internet is being able to draw upon the experiences of others. If you’re afflicted with something that someone else has had, then there is absolutely the chance that you can get some helpful advice. At the very least, if none of that works, you can then tell your doctor what you tried to narrow things down. After all, an important step in diagnosing is to match symptoms with the underlying condition. Provided that the advice isn’t harmful, it doesn’t hurt to try and may save you time and money.
Turn the bottle 90 degrees?
I’ve heard people say “data is the new oil” and there’s some flaws in that thinking, but what I find apt, and what was probably not taken into account when that idea was thought up, is that like oil, it’s being drilled, refined, and combusted, polluting the environment. Whether this is AI-generated or just poorly-written slop by a human for the purpose of generating “content” to make money off some dumb algorithm, it’s polluting the environment and making it harder to get a proper answer.
Success or failure depends on the goal. Perhaps outside observers can see something as a failure or success, but that doesn’t matter since you set the goals. As for which Lemmy community to post this to, I dunno.
This is something that working from home helped me out with a lot. More time sleeping instead of commuting. Even during lockdown times, the adequate amount of sleep I was getting kept me in higher spirits.
It’s the majority of Americans and women are experiencing it worse. That’s not contradictory at all.
That’s nice, but I’m more interested in prices coming back down. The manufacturers have been pumping up storage prices even though demand has gone down by artificially constricting supply.
No, even though they don’t like the instance, they are required to post in it for whatever reason and then cry when they predictably get modded.
If it was that important then the US should’ve invested in local manufacturing.
From what I remember, it was originally something that impoverished people did as the only way they could get coffee. It’s culinary gentrification, like lobster and even caviar. For the rich, everything is mainly a status symbol, even food and drink.
A literal crotch goblin?
Most, if not all, of these books talking about how to get rich are how the authors get rich in the first place. While there may be some good advice in them, the real way to get rich is to sell others on the idea that they could be rich if they buy your products/services.
