The value isn’t it’s (likely crap) utility, it’s being able to say “Look at us: we’re launching spy satellites just like technologically advanced countries! We’re advancing our offensive capabilities! You’d better take us seriously!”

Wood is pretty decent at blocking sound – it the voids between the studs that’s an issue. Filling them with sound deadening insulation solves that problem.
It’s not as good at blocking sound as a masonry wall obviously, but it’s “good enough” at a fraction of the price.
My toolbag calipers are cheap hardware store ones. They’re accurate enough and I’m not out much when they inevitably get damaged or lost.
That saying holds more truth if you’re using the “non-political” definitions of conservative – i.e. moderate, cautious, or resistant to change.
Moreso “set in your ways” as the world changes around you.
I own my own home now, but I’ve rented in the past. Eliminating rentals is an awful idea.
I moved a lot when I was younger: for education, jobs, etc. Buying a house every time I moved (knowing I was likely in an area temporarily) would have been a fucking nightmare – rentals fill a legitimate need.
Sure: fix the problems of price gouging and profiteering. Put strong limits on the number of single family homes one can rent, and outright stop corporations from buying single family homes. Increase protections for tenents and drive slumlords and absentee landlords out of business. But the idea of “just buy a house, lol” is absurd.

Huh. I thought it was because I’m familiar with LDS teachings, culture, and the church’s extensive, sordid, and recent history of sexism, abuse, and bigotry.
Which is extensively documented by people that have left the faith.
Mormons tend to be nice … to your face. As soon as you leave they’re likely to act like you’d expect followers of an extremely socially conservative, regressive, patriarchal religion would.
And I’m not saying all Mormons are like that – there are good people that are mormons, but it’s in spite of what the church teaches about gender, sexuality, and sin.
AZ always struck me as “the retirement state for new agers and hippies”.
No doubt there’s a lot of right-wing dirtbags, but I’m not surprised there’s a lot of decent people there too.
Lemmy has a fair number of loud, toxic instances, communities, and users. On the other hand, it’s easy to block all of them, and it’s practically a requirement to enjoy lemmy.
So block with zero hesitation – the only people that will give you crap about it are the people that are the problem in the first place.

People are drawn to and fascinated by taboo topics, and one’s experiences and upbringing determine the relationship with those taboos a person has.
Women have personal experiences with creepy/dangerous men, it’s a “known danger” they hear about from a young age, and serial killers represent the extreme example of this – it’s not really surprising “true crime” type media is popular with women.
Usually it does, but then again there are places where people don’t drink the tap water.

Really the only danger in using a microwave to boil water is superheating if there are no nucleation sites in the mug.
Which is why it’s important to put the teabag in the water before microwaving it.
Bigots aside, I’m convinced most people are 100% fine with queer and gender non-conforming characters so long as they’re well written.
People like characters that act like actual people – not pandering, one dimensional, rainbow capitalistic tokens.
