Boogie2988. I thought he seemed like a reasonable, unbiased person when I was watching around 2016. Kind of just moved on with my life after realising he was just following YouTube drama.

Have checked him out in the last year or so and it’s not looking good for him. The really sad thing is that he could have just taken his money and lived a chill life, but he seems to want a spotlight and to feel important even if it’s because people are shaming him for being a washed up b list youtuber.

It’s hard to get an apprenticeship to become one in Australia after your mid twenties. I’ve heard it’s because your pay has to be a fair bit higher than the kids just out of school, so they’d rather train a teenager.

Reddit is worse because of its size, resulting in problems with spam/low effort posts and comments.

This smaller size is a bit of a double-edged sword though. If I want to discuss cooking/chef knives with people, for example, there isn’t a niche community specifically for that topic. Maybe in this way it’s best for people to head outside of Lemmy to other forums for more specific interests, and Lemmy can be more tech/general discussion oriented.

I think it’s because people trend a lot older on Lemmy than Reddit. I imagine a lot of the more vile opinions you see on Reddit are teenagers. I’ve not seen much unhealthy discussion/ad hominen on Lemmy yet.

Agreed, it’s not perfect. Never mucked around with them myself, as 60 has been fine enough.

I’m in the camp that 60fps is still acceptable. With the Steam deck I think I’ve even moved to thinking that a stable 45 fps feels smooth enough. 120Hz is a bonus, but I think mods will give you unlocked framerate if the game comes to PC.

Exactly, that would be chicken feed compared to the overall cash flow for LTT alone. He’s got plenty of other YouTube channels and other means of making money.

YouTube ad revenue OF LTT in 2022 was $4.6 million, and sponsors would have paid the channel more than ad revenue was bringing in.

Is Adobe suite a major cost for LTT though? It’s the cost of a few licenses, and if it means just one less video goes out per year due to the inefficiencies of learning a new software package, it would not be worth the switch. I’m assuming each video they put out brings in revenue well into the 5 figures.

I used the wiki on r/usenet, which was pretty helpful.

From my understanding, you need 3 things:

1. Usenet Provider (these are servers that host all of the content - you pay them to have access to download the content)
2. Indexer (this is kind of like Google but for the usenet providers - they will find and give you the .nzb file which will be used to access the content from the usenet provider above - you pay the indexer for their service)
3. Usenet client (This would be akin to a torrent client like Qbittorrent - it is the program which you use to download the content from the provider, using the .nzb file provided by the indexer)

Benefits of Usenet I believe are the high speed of downloads, generally accessibility to older and more niche content, and ease of use. You don’t need to fish through torrents hoping that the seed/peer numbers are enough to actually get all of the content in good time. I’ve found a lot of stuff there lately that I have not been able to find via torrenting sites, but are important childhood media to me/my wife.

I might be biased running a NAS as well, but I’m not fussed about having a tonne of storage on-device. Yeah agreed it is bonkas how much they charge for that extra 8GB of RAM. Default should for sure be 16 by now.

Yeah man. Apple still screws people when it comes to ram and storage options of course, but the base products are actually pretty good for the money.

Sure, for the mac pro line with specs that us nerds care about.

I think some of those M1 mac airs are really affordable now though. For casual use it would be a good device for a tech illiterate person.
