I found it preferable when I started exclusively using the keyboard and keybinds. Tho I ended up using a TWM so I’m definitely not the target audience lol.

I can acknowledge all that and still say fuck discord. I never mentioned herding everyone over, I just explained why I think it’s a parasite and why I have a strong disliking towards it.
Idk about them, but it’s a centralized, locked-down service that absorbs and holds information and data hostage like tomorrow.
As someone who’s trying to completely avoid Discord, it’s quite frustrating how many communities and projects will put important information in their Discords, and nowhere else. You have to have an account to see it, and it also isn’t searchable in a search engine. It is actually quite terrible for pretty much everyone.
Element/Matrix lets you peek into public chats and servers/spaces without an account, so it can definitely be done. They won’t do it though, because they gotta make you feel dat FOMO lol.
Mother 3. I really don’t know what else to say, this series impacted me so much in my youth and I wish I got to experience it raw.
As an American who has to hear about shootings pretty consistently, I’d like to say the fear can be pretty justified. I don’t really know what it’s like to live in a world without guns and their presence, so it’s hard to imagine life without the necessity of them to protect yourself. It’s just one of those things that’s hard to understand unless you’ve lived in it I guess.
Honestly all I want is a Steam Deck Mini. Fuck bigger and more powerful, I want a small indie/AA game machine that’s easier to carry around and use as a handheld outside of the house. The Steam Deck has been primarily a bed machine for me.
I saw discussions of other clients implementing it, and given the FOSS nature of Matrix it should be no issue. From my observations, it seems the issue is more related to manpower. Most clients simply do not have the same resources as Element, and lack a lot of features. My favorite client (Cinny) doesn’t even have the calling features already implemented in nearly every other client, for example. Quite often they’re decently behind. It’s typically a matter of picking what features you want, while sacrificing those that you don’t care as much for.
I think it’s a matter of when, and how long you’re willing to wait for the others to catch up. I can’t imagine it will be the easiest thing to implement, especially since they’ll have to modify the UI to fit their designs as well.
I just check my Nix.config, but most distros don’t have that privilege.
Idk how it works for most other distros, but I know on Arch you can check all packages manually installed by pacman and your AUR helper.
It was mainly the search, it was a ghost town for Masto content and accounts. Maye that’s still a WIP, but finding accounts I want to doesn’t seem easy.
Yeah I’m mainly interested in the tech and pushing it as an option. Android ROMs are waaaaay better for privacy/security. It’s hard to recommend a Linux phone unless you’re a techie, Linux enthusiast, or a dev.
I don’t have one yet but I’d like to try one when I can casually spend a few hundred bucks on one.
Yeah, there’s a crazy amount of tricks they employed to bring the sprites to life in a way that just isn’t possible on modern displays. The sharp pixel look is actually an unfortunate byproduct of the transition to newer tech.
Regardless of the how, I think it’s really cool that the top instance isn’t run by the devs. Really shows off the power and appeal of decentralized services.
Sweet, does it have image support? I use Foot, which has libsixel support for cleaf images.
A terminal client for browsing and using Reddit. You could post, reply, search, etc. etc.
When I first saw this title, I wrote the concept off. People like free things, selling FOSS is hard and most won’t buy it. Then I started thinking of Friday Night Funkin’. Disregarding ALL the drama or how people feel about that game, it was free, open, and so many people loved it that it made millions on a Kickstarter. Of course the game was super popular, but still. It just made me rethink the possibility of open sourcing games. Most people will buy or contribute to something they love, as long as they are able. It made me realize I should be a little less cynical sometimes, so thanks for posting your thoughts.
Cheers, and good luck with whatever you choose to do in the future!
Actually, a new Android client called Thunder has entered Alpha. It’s SEVERELY lacking in features as of now, though.
Does my upvote count as a like, or are we not that advanced yet?
Oh I know. There’s just a big difference between being told/reading about it, to actually seeing and using it in practice. This really is the future of the internet.
He shouldn’t have to, the point is read before commenting about a clickbait headline. If he has to spell it out that only furthers his point.
