I don’t have details on Google’s implementation. It’s also not what is most important.
My point is that you, or Apple, or anyone else, don’t need details on Google’s implementation to implement those standards.
Just as you said you wouldn’t trust WhatsApp, you don’t need to trust Google’s app either as long as someone else was willing to create an app that implemented an open standard, you can use and trust that app instead.
