  • Why? Does 95% of digital advertisement even serve a single valuable purpose?

I get that websites need funding and that legitimate business require some way communicate their services exist. We need to solve the problem for the former and create specialized accessible safe spaces for the later.

When is the last time anyone here saw an ad for a local business, when is the last time anyone recall willfully clicking one? Was there actually anything useful there?

From what i recall ads almost always are one of the following:

    • sex, barely legal drugs and predatory video games. (Lumped together to make a bad pun)

    • real product/fake price: oh this item isnt in stock plz look at catalog

    • politics, buy our guide to get rich, actual illegal scam operation.

None of them are honest or respectful to the customer. People aren’t prey, stop baiting.

Admittedly, for me this is personal. Autism means i experience the extra noise as painful. Plastering it on useful websites feels like a hostile attack to keep me out and unwelcome. I downright refuse to look at watch nor will i support them through ad free subscriptions to the point of it having become a digital disability.

But come on, can we smart online people really not figure out something else that isn’t based on literal brainwashing.

  • I had no idea and i thought i was relatively up to date with new gen technology. I thought the foldable phones that came out where more an experimental proof of concept of the first instance of such technology but not that whole flexible panels where possible.

Even just the fact an oled display can be this thin is completely new to me.

  • Its the opposite, parents with blue eyes can only pass on blue genes. But also everything we learned in school about genetics is a simplification. Theres a whole spectrum of eye color hues.

Generally darker is seems more dominant so a good rule Is a child is unlikely to have darker features then the parents.

  • Honestly, and in many ways personally i feel like what we really should do is stop caring about the economy and start caring about our neighborhoods again.

I originally wrote we should literally collapse the economy and stop going to work but as you read below my reasons that could work counts on people like myself not doing that… so far how my feelings translate to my reality i become a hypocrite…

I know many people who work in varying public services. Hospitals, schools, government. All, me included, vouch we would still try to perform the spirit if not the law of our jobs even if we are not paid or there is a complete government collapse.

Too many people are stuck dedicated all their time and energy to the pure profit of private industry. They often contribute nothing for the society around them except taxes that can be mishandled by elected celebrities.

Don’t get me wrong me being pro public services and anti private industry, working with government. I am not pro centralized government. On the contrary down with our leaders. Not because there evil but because they are human. Placing a select team of corruptible humans at the helm of powers can only ever be a temporary system.

I believe once we have eliminated the distractions.

    • for profit business (which exploits common wealth on principle)

    • centralized leaders (who cannot possibly understand the nuance and reason of every community)

We can finally free up the workforce for what really matters. Building healthy thriving and most importantly sustainable communities for our children. Self organize, similar like we once did as tribe but with a major difference.

“A global consciousness”, advanced knowledge and technology, the ability to share and communicate information anywhere in the world. Learning from eachother, helping eachother.

Yeah, besides debating the topic here to raise general awareness, who knows really what we should do?

  • Start getting into self hosting, you dont need all that expensive hardware. An old laptop can get you started.

Heres some stuff you can do.

    Fix youtube:

A script (with yt-dl) on a schedule checks a list of channels to download x amount latests videos from their channel.

    Fix Television Streaming:

Jellyfin allows you to stream your own content regardless where you sourced it. I output the youtube videos from above in it

    Fix Music Stream

Ive setup Navidrone to stream my music library. Previously i only ever played locally stored music but storage space limits forced me to look beyond and its been working well

    Fix Cloud computing

Get full control and ownership of your data so it cant be exploited behind your back. Nextcloud is well documented on how to setup your own cloud system including office apps, calendars.

    Fix personal online communication.

Signal appears to be one of the only ones competent to so it right.

    In general on the web:

    • Always ublock origin, I’ve yet to see a better one and i flat-out wont use the desktop web without.

    • Use bookmarks for sites you visit regularly rather then giving search engine the extra traffic every time. This sounds super mild but its actually a focus lifehack. You dont need 90% of the shit your being distracted with.

Most people only need a handful of urls for a few functions. For me half of those are selfhosted and those that arent are in someway selected and configured for personal least hassle least shit experience. Ever since I bookmarked Wikipedia and wolfram i’ve used them more to get answers than conventional search engines.

  • “don’t enter any commands you see online without looking at it first. You can’t trust everyone”

This has somewhat become a staple idea of mine. People trust others online way too easily. Ai isn’t all that different in this but its more obvious to us that there is something to be scared about the uncanny valley.

What it tends to come down to is capacity for personal critical thinking which we should aim to foster more in future generations.

Maybe i assume too much that programmer-minded people naturally come with such skills for troubleshooting and will be capable of responsible ai interactions?
