    That sounds like it’s a gay couple that lives in a place that’s hostile to LGBT+ community so the girlfriend is just a mutual friend that’s providing cover for them so that the tyrannical government wouldn’t harass them.

    Edit: I’m not trying to offend anyone and I’m not assuming their sexual orientation, I’m just saying that pretending to be heterosexual is a thing that gay/lesbian people used to do in order to stay safe from the government, and probably still do to this day.

      Uh… I feel like it could literally be any combination of people of any gender and the question tweeted or joke concept of “homie in laws” being partners of two best friends always hanging out doesn’t change at all.
